Coils are used in various places of automobiles. Round wires are used for the conventional coils and improving the performance of the conventional coils has reached a limit. A DC/DC converter efficiently converts DC power from a battery or a generator from one voltage level to another for a device to be used. Automobiles are equipped with ECU (engine control unit), lights, audio equipment and other electric appliances which use different voltage level. Furthermore, electric appliances installed in automobiles such as car navigation systems and smarphones are becoming diversified year by year. In addition, the practical use of electric automobile is requiring more efficient and smaller DC/DC converters. The space factor of coils using conventional round wires is low and it is impossible to make the coils smaller. Since URATANI ENGINEERING excels at producing edgewise coils using flat wires and is able to provide small coils with a high space factor in a short delivery period.

Elimination of electric current irregularity results in ensured normal operation of various parts and protection of parts life from shortening due to overcurrent. Since the ECU of recent automobiles controls the whole automobile including the engine, large-sized and large-current choke coils with excellent resistance to heat/vibration are required. The space factor of conventional coils using round wires is low and the performance of these coils is limited. Edgewise coils using flat wires are large-current type because the space factor of them is high. Since every wire is exposed to air, the coils control temperature rise. We deliver coils with excellent resistance in heat.

A transformer transforms voltage from one level to another by using magnetic induction. A voltage level is transformed to the intended level by a transformer to apply electricity suitable for the equipment. Making smaller transformers using round wires has limitation. An inverter is circuitry that changes DC power to AC power. Inverters drive AC motors (alternating-current motors) by changing DC power of batteries to AC power. In other cases, inverters are installed to use personal computers, audio equipment and other household appliances in automobiles. Although smaller and lighter inverters are required as well, it is difficult to make smaller and lighter inverters using conventional round wires while maintaining performance. The use of flat wires for coils has achieved the production of smaller inverter with high performance through an enhanced space factor.

A motor consists of coils, an iron core and magnet and generates motion energy by using electricity to drive various parts. In recent years, the number of electric vehicles and hybrid cars has increased and expectation towards roles and performances of motors has grown. For example, the motor of EVs takes the same role as the engine of gasoline-powered vehicles as well. Although engine-integrated motor for full hybrid vehicles or strong hybrid vehicles cannot support old types of vehicles, the mild hybrid method using small batteries and motors can be introduced to the old design. Small-sized and large-current motors are required.

A motor whose winding of each phase is in a single slot. Having high productivity, they are commonly used. There are two types; thin axial gap type and thick radial gap type. A battery is a cell that stores electricity generated by an alternator of automobiles. It plays a role to provide DC power to the entire automobile.
